The tapers come with two O-rings in all sizes. These will secure the taper in place and prevent it from slipping out of your piercing. 

If you just started stretching your ear piercing, get the smallest model in 14g (1.6 mm) and add lube to your order. This way, it will be much easier to insert the taper into your piercing. And more importantly, remember that it shouldn't hurt at all. Listen to your ears and be careful, as the gauge will be better at the end of the process.
