Although there are many kinds of ear piercings, all of which have earned great popularity in recent decades, the earlobe piercing is, and always will be, the most iconic. You might call it the mother of all piercings, as this type goes back thousands of years. The ancient Pharaoh Tutankhamun had earlobe piercings. Interestingly, the trend came into Western culture in the Renaissance when mostly sailors had them, and only a few centuries later, they were the fashion craze of high society for ladies and gentlemen alike. In other words, lobe piercings look great on anyone.
So you don’t have to go for a traditional style when you choose your lobe jewelry. On the contrary, the lobe is an extremely versatile placement for jewelry and only encourages individuality and changing trends. Being easily accessible and visible, lobe piercings are a staple in the history of human self-expression - and you’re part of it too.
Firstly, the earlobe is not as small as, say, the tragus and has room for several jewelry placements. Depending on the jewelry, slight differences in placement can make a huge impact on the overall feel. A heavy teardrop shape might hang from the lowest part of the lobe, but a chic labret could seem more playful if placed off-center in an upper lobe piercing. Also, this freedom of placement allows you to wear two eye-catchers side by side, arranging a unique double lobe piercing. Or even more, if you can’t help but show off all your favorites at once. You can let designs support each other, building something stronger than the sum of its parts, or go crazy with contrasts to take everyone by surprise. What will you combine?
Secondly, the earlobe is perfect for pretty much any kind of piercing jewelry. It’s flexible and nicely exposed, making space for even the boldest accessory ideas. Whether your outfit’s for work, chilling, or a night out on the town, great earlobe jewelry elevates your style and helps you rise to the occasion. Maybe you need a cute earring for that sweet Summer vibe? A flashy dangle of stones to glam up your New Year’s Eve? A cool stretching plug to make heads turn at the next big festival? Anything is possible, and we’ve got you covered.

Lobe Piercing FAQ
What is the standard size for lobe jewelry?
The minimum thread thickness of an earlobe piercing is 1 mm, and the standard is 1.2 mm. So your jewelry, whatever the type, should not be any thinner, as it would incite your piercing to grow smaller.
For labrets, the standard length is 6-8 mm. But when it comes to ring diameter, one of the many advantages of the earlobe is that it has lots of space. So there is no standard diameter: it is entirely up to your good taste.
How long does my lobe piercing take to heal?
The healing time for an earlobe piercing is much shorter than any of the cartilage piercing types because the flesh is much softer. It is yet another reason why this type is so widespread. The healing period is about 2-4 months.
How do I treat my lobe piercing while it heals?
Carefully clean your new piercing twice per day. We recommend that you do so once with water and a fine soap and once with a saline solution. The salt draws out any discharge, but if the cleaning is overdone, it will irritate the wound. So have patience. Also, you should never touch your piercing or the jewelry in it except when cleaning it. Otherwise, you risk infecting it with bacteria from your hands.
When can I change my lobe piercing jewelry?
As your new lobe piercing heals, never take out the jewelry that your piercer placed in it, or else, the piercing will close back up again. You should only change the jewelry after your piercing has fully healed. Even then, don’t leave your piercing with nothing in it, because even though it won’t close completely at this point, it can still grow a little tighter, which makes it harder to insert jewelry later.
We recommend wearing a stud during the healing period. A ring will move around too easily and upset the new piercing constantly, which slows down the healing time. However, the bar length should be one size bigger than your normal length to account for the swelling. Once the healing is complete, you can wear whatever you like. So what will it be?
