Black is a great color, but if it's matte, it's even better, because it has a much more sophisticated effect. The barbell is made of surgical steel and covered in black matte. When a color is matte, it means that it won't shine because it cannot reflect light. Standard surfaces usually have some brightness, but not if it's totally opaque.
