This is a perfect tool to use at home, individually. If you need ring opening pliers for a piercing studio, we recommend that you buy steel pliers, because you can use them for a long time. If you only need to use them sometimes to change your rings at home, you can use this tool. 

These ring-opening pliers work for rings of a diameter of 1/2" (12 mm).

If you have bigger rings, with a thicker gauge, we recommend that you use a steel tool, because plastic is not hard enough to open those kinds of rings.
