Exploring Labia Piercings: Procedure, Healing, and Aesthetics

Labia piercings are one type of female genital piercing. When we talk about the labia and piercings, we usually divide them into labia minora (inner) and labia majora (outer).

People often like to have one made on each side to create symmetry.

What jewelry should I choose for my labia piercing?

You can use almost any kind of jewelry for a labia piercing. However, most people use a regular ring or a horseshoe.

What’s the difference between the outer and inner labia?

This is one of the more common and simple genital piercings.  Both parts of the female genital region have different characteristics:

  • The outer labia can be pierced wherever there is enough tissue to pierce. It’s often placed at least one centimeter inside the upper part of the lip. It’s slightly more painful, as there is more tissue to penetrate, and for that reason, the healing time is also a bit prolonged.
  • The inner labia piercing is placed approximately at the same height as a piercing in the outer labia. Depending on your body, that’s usually about a centimeter inside the upper part of the lip. Since there is not as much tissue to pierce as with the outer labia, this piercing heals faster.

Everybody’s body is different. For that reason, we cannot say where exactly your labia piercing should be placed, so you should follow a professional piercer’s advice. All in all, you can enjoy a relatively short healing time.

Does the labia piercing increase sexual sensitivity?

The labia piercing does not have a stimulating effect; it’s usually done for aesthetic reasons. However, it does spice things up.
