Bridge Piercing Guide: Jewelry, Procedure And Aftercare

A bridge piercing is located between the eyes, on the top of the nose bridge. It is sometimes called Earl or Erl piercing (from Erl Van Aken, the man who invented this piercing).

Most people get a horizontal bridge with a straight barbell. However, it can also be placed vertically. This vertical bridge piercing is located on the lower part of the forehead, just above the nose bridge.

What jewelry can I wear on a bridge?

When you get it done, the piercer will insert a straight bar. Once it has healed, you can switch to another piece of jewelry.

However, most people choose to keep the straight barbell. Others choose to change to a curved bar or an endless ring. Keep in mind that the thread thickness should be 1.6 mm.

How is a bridge piercing done?

A bridge piercing is made just like any other piercing.

• The dots indicating the piercing’s location must be straight across from each other. If they are the slightest bit out of alignment, it will be visible when the jewelry goes in.
• Once the skin is marked, pliers hold the skin, and the piercer inserts the needle, followed by the barbell. It goes fast and hardly hurts.

How should I take care of my bridge piercing?

This piercing is a surface piercing. As with all surface piercings, it’s difficult to heal properly because the body wants to reject it.

You should therefore leave the piercing alone and tamper with it as little as possible. If the piercing grows out, it will leave an ugly scar. If you see that it’s starting to come out, you should take it out yourself.
