Dermal Piercing

The dermal piercing may well be the most versatile type of all, allowing you to fashion your style completely to your personal taste. Dermal jewelry is designed to look fantastic no matter where your piercing is, and we have a large selection of the very best. You can choose exactly the look, size and material that works best for you, including surgical steel and 14k gold. There are so many options to try out, and our swift delivery will bring them to you in no time. When you find just the right little beauties, you’ll feel like the good old you in a whole new way.

A dermal piercing is a piercing in the skin, also known as microdermal piercing or one-point piercing. Unlike other piercing types, say, in the ear or tongue, a dermal doesn’t go through any cartilage or particular bit of anatomy. It just sits in the skin itself, hence the name one-point. This means that you can get a dermal piercing almost anywhere on your body, even in places that are difficult to pierce, giving you a near-infinite range of placements for your self-expression. It can be a real eye-catcher that no one can ignore, a private treasure only for you and your dearest to admire or something in between. It’s totally up to you!

Among the popular locations for dermal piercings, the chest area is ripe with possibilities. Cute choices are the butterfly piercing, sitting right where the collar bones meet, and the sternum piercing on the breastbone. The back and neck have just as many options, and so, each side of your torso makes for a whole canvas for you to unleash your creativity. This is especially true if you have multiple dermal piercings coming together in a stunning and personal arrangement, like your very own constellation right there on your skin.

Although there are many piercing types for the face, such as in the nose or lips, you can have a dermal on your forehead or cheek if you want your jewelry to stand apart from any specific facial features. In this way, your jewelry takes on a life of its own and will never fail to be noticed. We also see people sporting dermal piercing jewelry on their arms or hands, adding a great finishing touch to any style - or carrying it all by itself. The same goes for legs or even hips, which create a display of audacity and allure. Generally, dermals reconnect you with your own body and boost your sense of self, even if they’re not always visible to others.

Because dermal piercings can sit anywhere, you can easily make them the center of attention if you pick the right jewelry. A whirly tribal design or a gorgeous opal stone is as charming as it is surprising, whether on your hand, neck or thigh. But you can just as easily go for subtlety and finesse with a simple flat disc. And of course, there’ll always be the funky stuff, like the back of a cartridge that showcases a sense of humor and chill.

So just as you are completely free to place your dermal piercing wherever you wish, you can pick and choose the jewelry that matches who you are. Anything is possible, all you need to do is be yourself, and browse our collection for your new favorite bling to take your style to the next level. What are you waiting for?

FAQ

How to clean a dermal piercing?

For the whole healing period, you must clean your dermal piercing twice a day. Once with water and a fine soap, and later once more with a saline solution. The soap cleans the wound to prevent infection, and the salt extracts excess fluids to ease the healing process. Don’t touch the piercing when you’re not cleaning it, and try not to put pressure on it, like wearing tight clothes.

It’s not easy to say how long the healing will take since that depends greatly on the placement, but areas in frequent movement will take longer to heal due to constant irritation. In any case, taking good care of your piercing should be a top priority and is always worth the effort and patience.

How to change a dermal piercing?

Most dermal piercings are made with what is called a dermal anchor, which is a base that sits under your skin. The base is threaded, which allows you to screw and unscrew a decorative top. This is such a secure type of piercing that changing the jewelry top requires dermal anchor tools: tongs to hold the base in place and pliers to screw and unscrew the top. Using these tools makes the process very easy and convenient. Not all dermal jewelry can be changed, though. A so-called skindiver is a type of piercing jewelry made of one solid piece, so the top cannot be changed.

Not to be confused with a dermal, even though it’s similar, there’s also the , which is a barbell placed under the skin with its two ends visible above. These are sometimes solid as well, but they are available with threads so you can put whatever you want on the ends for a cool double dazzler of your own design.

How is a dermal piercing done?

The piercer uses a needle to make a small well in your skin for the dermal jewelry to sit in. As the skin is highly flexible, the jewelry can be fitted underneath even though its base is larger than the hole, keeping it in place. The dermal anchor has a perforated base, and the tissue grows back together through these perforations, embedding the base securely into the skin.

By nature, this procedure only affects the very surface of your body, whereas something like an earlobe piercing punctures the lobe all the way through. The fact that dermal piercings have only a single opening makes them pretty unique. The exception is a surface barbell whose two ends are visible above the surface through separate exit points.

Are dermal piercings safe?

There is a chance that your body will reject the jewelry, particularly if the pierced area moves around a lot or the piercing is too deep. If your jewelry gets rejected, fear not. All it means is that your body will push it out, so you should comply and take it out to avoid a scar. The risk of rejection puts you in no danger, it just makes it difficult or impossible for you to get a dermal piercing in that spot. Don’t let that ruin your fashion dreams - try a different placement, and it will work out eventually. Consult your own piercer for detailed advice.
