Tragus Piercing

Amongst the great variety of ear piercings, the tragus piercing is a quite subtle one, yet very edgy. The tragus is the small bit of cartilage in front of the ear canal. It is not as exposed as the lobe or helix, but it brings the bling closer to your face and is guaranteed to be noticed. Being a petite area of the ear, it works well with smaller, seemingly simple jewelry that woos anyone to look more closely. From our selection, you can pick countless designs to amaze everyone around you.

A tragus piercing marks the sweet spot between finesse and audacity, a fashionable understatement that cannot be ignored. It makes for that tiny detail that completes the perfect look, the spark that lights up the fireworks of your whole outfit. Of course, the intricacy of this piercing type also goes well with other, more extravagant ear accessories, as Zoë Kravitz often proves with her dazzling arrangements.

As an alternative, the anti tragus piercing sits across from the normal tragus, just above the lobe, and offers room for more sprawling jewelry, if that’s your thing. That said, both allow you to combine jewelry in a creative double tragus piercing that shows off your personality in an undeniable fashion.

We have many subtle treasures in our collection of tragus earrings, labrets, and barbells. These jewelry types are ideal for the tragus as they are available in smaller sizes. Yet, each design has its delicate vibe, and you’ll soon find the gems to match yours.

Go for the minimalistic look of a seamless ring, in a classic gold or silver color, or perhaps spiced up by something more funky, like the rainbow variant. If you are looking for glitter and sparkles, you’ll also love a brilliant row of stones along the side of your earring, catching the light around you to gently draw attention. Or what about going all in with the elaborate beauty of a multi-colored labret in the ? That will really show who’s Queen.

Whatever your individual style, we have something awesome to top it off with a bang. Take a look around and see for yourself.

Tragus Piercing FAQ

What is the standard size of tragus jewelry?

For tragus rings and horseshoes, the standard thickness is 1.2 mm, and the diameter typically varies from 6 to 8 mm. The wider the ring, the less pressure it puts on the piercing due to a more slender curve, but it also occupies more space. What is best for you depends on what is most comfortable for your ear shape. If in doubt, ask your local piercer for advice.

For labrets and barbells, the standard bar thickness and length are 1.2 mm and 6 mm. A barbell, whether straight or curved, has a ball on each end and so takes up more space on the inside of the tragus than a labret, which has a flat base. The standard ball size is 3-4 mm. Bear in mind that if you wear jewelry that is thinner than the gauge of your piercing, it will grow smaller to match, making it difficult to fit thicker rings and bars later.

How much does a tragus piercing hurt?

On a scale from 1 to 10, the pain of having your tragus pierced is a 4. So it does hurt a little, but you’ll definitely survive and be happy that you got it. Of course, only get a piercing done by a professional who can be trusted and follows the proper procedure.

How long does my tragus piercing take to heal?

The cartilage is generally not as soft as the earlobe and takes longer to heal. The initial healing period of a tragus piercing is 6-12 months, but it can take longer if not properly cared for. Make sure to protect your piercing from infection and undue pressure.

How do I care for my tragus piercing while it heals?

During the initial healing, clean your new piercing twice every day: once with water and a delicate soap and once with a saline solution. At all other times, avoid touching your piercing until it has fully healed, otherwise, you could cause an infection or generally irritate your piercing. Do not even change or remove the jewelry.

Take care not to sleep on the healing ear. Many people get a tragus piercing in just one ear, but if you want both, you should let the first one heal before getting the second, for your own comfort. This way, you’re also able to talk on the phone, wear an earbud, etc. in the unpierced ear during the healing period.

How do I change my tragus jewelry?

As your tragus piercing heals, you should let the jewelry put in by the piercer stay in place. A straight barbell or labret is preferable over a ring or curved bar as they better accommodate any swelling. Once fully healed, you may change to whatever you want.

Changing tragus jewelry can be finicky as the placement is a little restrictive. Make sure you are familiar with the locking mechanism of your specific jewelry before wearing it. Most of our wares have very convenient mechanisms, like rings with hinged segments or barbells and labrets with internal threads, which open and close easily from the front of your tragus.

Always wash your hands before changing jewelry, and never leave your piercing bare for long, because it can quickly close up just enough to make it harder to insert new jewelry.

How do I clean my tragus jewelry?

Any of our piercing jewelry should be cleaned by gently wiping it with a dry microfiber cloth that has not been treated with any chemicals. It really is that simple, and yet, it makes all the difference if you want your beauties to look their best.

What is the best material for tragus jewelry?

We always recommend titanium jewelry for new piercings as well as PTFE or bioplast because they are easy on your skin, especially if you have a nickel allergy. Otherwise, 14K gold or surgical steel are great, stylish choices.
