This captive bead ring looks like a regular one, except that the ball is not round, but cylindrical. This makes the closure ball look slightly flat. It also means that when the ring lies against the skin, the ball will point out. As the cylinder is flat on the back, it will lie flat on the skin and point outwards.
The ring is available in several different colors, diameters, and gauge sizes. It's not possible to choose the size of the ball, as this will come in proportion according to the ring's dimensions. - It won't be possible to get a 2g (6 mm) gauge ring with a 1/8" (3 mm) ball; the ball must be larger than the ring's gauge.
In smaller gauge sizes, the cylinder is easy to insert and remove. However, in larger gauge sizes, it may be a good idea to use a ring opener, as a large gauge ring combined with a small diameter can be hard to open. The cylinder has two indentations in which the ends of the ring are pressed.
The opal mentioned is not a real opal gemstone, as they are fragile and not very suitable for piercing jewelry. This captive bead ring features a synthetic opal, making it more durable. However, you can hardly notice any difference from a real gemstone.
