Nose/Nostril Piercings

Your nose is front and center, so even the tiniest detail here makes a big impact. A nose piercing isn’t just jewelry; it’s personality, mood, and sometimes your whole look. A single stud can say understated chic, while a bold hoop says look at me, I’m not shy.

There are two main ways to play the nose game:

1) Nostril Piercing

The classic, the favorite, the one that never goes out of style. With roots in tradition and a permanent spot in modern fashion, the nostril piercing is one of the most popular choices worldwide. Sitting on either side of your nose, it instantly changes your look and gives you endless ways to play with style. Here are the most popular jewelry types:

  • Studs = like a wearable beauty mark
  • Hoops = a little edge, a little glow
  • High nostril = same idea, just placed higher for more drama

Left, right, or both? Totally your call. Some keep it minimal, others stack rings and studs into little nose stories. Either way, nostril piercings are subtle, expressive, and endlessly flexible.

2) Septum Piercing

The piercing with two personalities. Keep it low-key with a slim horseshoe you can flip up if you want to hide it, or go bold with a chunky ring that says yes, I mean business. Symmetry, edge, and a whole lot of character.

Nose Piercing FAQ

Does a nose piercing hurt?

Depends on the type:

  • Nostril = quick pinch (about a 2/10)
  • Septum = sharper but short (around 6/10)

So yeah, you’ll feel it, but it’s over before you know it.

How long does it take to heal?

Patience is part of the deal:

  • Nostril = usually 3 to 6 months, but high nostril piercings can take 6 to 12 months
  • Septum = most heal in 2 to 4 months, but some take up to 6 to 8 months, depending on placement and anatomy

Healing times are averages. Everyone’s body is different, so always follow your piercer’s advice before swapping jewelry. And remember: don’t rush jewelry changes. Healed means healed, not “feels okay after a few weeks.”

How do I take care of it?

Keep it simple:

  • Clean twice daily (mild soap + water once, saline the other time)
  • Hands off unless you’re cleaning
  • Avoid makeup, sunscreen, or heavy creams near the piercing
  • Fresh pillowcases are your new bestie

When can I change my jewelry?

Not until it’s fully healed. That’s months, not weeks. Once you’re in the clear, the fun begins. Rings, studs, crawlers, whatever fits your vibe.

Do nose piercings close up?

Yes, especially nostril piercings. Take the jewelry out for too long and the hole can shrink fast. Septum piercings close more slowly but reinsertion can be tricky. If you want to keep it, keep something in.

Can I sleep on a fresh nose piercing?

Try not to. Pressure slows healing and can cause bumps. Back sleeping is best or hack it with a travel pillow.
