Discovering Ampallang Piercings: Placement, Pain, and Aftercare

An Ampallang is a male intimate piercing where a rod goes horizontally through the head of the penis with a straight piercing barbell.

Ampallang is one of the more painful piercings to get done, but don’t let that put you off.

Because of its location and the shape of the piercing jewelry, the Ampallang is highly sexually stimulating for both you and your partner.

The Ampallang is very similar to the vertical version of the Apadravya, which also passes vertically through the penis head. Combining these two piercings is called ‘Magic Cross.’

How do I get an Ampallang done?

This intimate piercing is usually performed in 3 steps like most other intimate piercings:

  • The area is completely cleaned, the skin disinfected, and the piercer prepares their tools.
  • The piercer chooses the adequate barbell according to the dimensions of the penis when it is erect. Many piercers allow you to measure yourself in advance or in private.
  • The piercing is performed when the penis is in a flaccid state.

You might see some blood but don’t worry: as soon as the barbell is inserted, it will stop most of the bleeding.

Should I use a large or small thread thickness?

An adequate thread thickness helps to ensure that the cheese cutter effect does not occur. The cheese cutter effect or piercing migration is when the body slowly rejects the jewelry and grows out.

When you replace your piercing jewelry, you must never go below a thread thickness of 1.6 mm.

You can, however, progressively go for a larger thread thickness (up to 10mm) to stretch your piercing.

What’s the story behind the Ampallang?

A piercing through the head of the penis was considered a requirement for marriage by tribal people in Borneo. As mentioned above, having sex with an Ampallang is sexually stimulating for both parties.

How long does it take to heal an Ampallang piercing?

An Ampallang takes a long time to heal. You should always follow your piercer's advice and guidance on proper piercing aftercare.

Throughout the healing period, you should always use a condom. Without a condom and with an unhealed piercing, sex can become very painful, and you risk nasty infections due to foreign liquids in an open wound.
